New Ramp-Metering Lights on Hwy 85 and Hwy 87 in Santa Clara County (1/7/09 6:06 a.m.)
On December 29, 2008, Caltrans activated new ramp-metering lights for Northbound Hwy 87, between Skyport Boulevard and the Southbound Hwy 85 connector ramp to Northbound Hwy 87 in San Jose.
On Monday, January 19, 2009, Caltrans will also activate ramp-metering lights for Southbound Hwy 85, from Almaden Expressway to Cottle Road, including the Southbound Hwy 87 connector to Southbound Hwy 85 in San Jose.
The new ramp-metering lights will be set to solid green until fully operational during the morning or evening commutes in mid to late January 2009. Caltrans has activated a hotline for information on a new ramp metering system on Highways 85 and 87 in Santa Clara County. The Ramp Metering Hotline number is (510) 286-4531. Overnight Pavement Rehabilitation On I-80 in Solano County (1/7/09 6:05 a.m.)
Weather permitting, Caltrans will be fixing approach slabs and making adjustments to median barriers along sections of I-80 between Air Base Parkway in Fairfield and east of Leisure Town Road in Vacaville. The work will run Sunday through Wednesday overnights between the hours of 9:00pm and 6:00am.
Various lane and ramp closures will be in effect throughout the life of this project, which is scheduled to be completed by August 2009. Click here for more information.
Yerba Buena Island Ramp Construction (1/7/09 6:04 a.m.)
The Yerba Buena Island eastbound right-hand side off ramp (east of the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel) remains closed for construction until the Bay Bridge project is complete in 2013. There are alternate on and off ramps west of the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel. For more information about Bay Bridge closures, click here.
92/880 Project in Hayward (1/7/09 6:03 a.m.)
Caltrans has begun the project to rebuild the interchange for CA-92 and I-880 in Hayward. A cloverleaf is planned and will include multi-lane direct connectors from Hwy 92 eastbound to I-880 northbound and Hwy 92 westbound to I-880 southbound. Eastbound traffic lanes on Hwy 92 have been reconfigured as part of this project. Click here for more information.
US-101 Auxiliary Lane Widening Project in San Mateo (1/7/09 6:02 a.m.)
As part of the Highway 101 Auxiliary Lane Widening project in San Mateo, Caltrans will close access to the northbound U.S. 101 onramp at Coyote Point for the construction of the elevated roadway at Airport Blvd. This work phase will continue until late 2009. Northbound traffic leaving Coyote Point will be detoured north on Airport Blvd to Anza Blvd. Southbound traffic leaving Coyote Point will be detoured south on Bayshore Blvd to 3rd Avenue.
Completion of the Auxiliary Lane Widening project is scheduled to end in the spring of 2011. Click here for more information.
I-238 Widening and Rehabilitation Project in San Leandro (1/7/09 6:01 a.m.)
Caltrans continues with the widening and rehabilitation project on Interstate 238, between I-880 and I-580 in San Leandro. Construction work to expand traffic lanes is expected to last until early 2010. Improvements will enhance traffic operations by providing additional capacity and safety by reducing the number of lanes for trucks to cross from westbound I-580 to northbound I-238. Highway 24 Rehabilitation - Caldecott Tunnel to Walnut Creek (1/7/09 6:00 a.m.)
Caltrans began its rehabilitation project for eight miles of Highway 24 in early May of 2007. Work is expected to last until mid-2009. Weather permitting, most of the work will be done on weeknights, typically from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am. Ramp and lane closures will only take place during overnight hours when traffic is lightest.
